The artist
Bridget Credland Dey

I was born in Dunedin, and although London has been my home since 2003, Aotearoa (New Zealand) will always be the home of my heart. It is woven into my soul, and it shows up in everything I make.
My path to art was never a straight line. I built a career in marketing with brands including BaByliss, Cuisinart and HoMedics, and I learned a lot about the world that way. Then life shifted. Motherhood, separation and later divorce pulled me into the in-between spaces, and that is where my practice flourished. After my youngest was born I went back to study and completed an Art and Design Foundation with Distinction. That was the start of my journey to reclaiming myself.
I work intuitively in textured oils, alcohol ink, sculpture and mixed media. Some days that means coffee grounds, other days gold leaf. I am drawn to mark and memory, and to turning the stuff of ordinary life into something that speaks of resilience, sovereignty and remembrance. My work explores the emotional and ever-evolving landscapes of the feminine through transformation and reclamation, and it honours the journey it takes to get there.
I have been open about my mother’s mental health challenges, and about living through undiagnosed postnatal depression myself. Now, in perimenopause and after divorce, I know how much it matters to feel seen. Every piece is made by hand, from the heart, and meant to remind you of your own strength, warmth and light.
I make art for women reclaiming their fire.
